Epilepsy Outreach and Education

National Walk for Epilepsy
March 31, 2007
The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is actively involved in outreach and education for the community and health care professionals. Our goal is to help the public understand epilepsy, which in turn will make life a bit easier for affected persons, their family, and friends. Included among our complimentary programs and services are:
  • Health Fairs
  • Street Fairs
  • Wellness Seminars
  • Workshops
  • Special Events Concerning Epilepsy Education
Research estimates that 1 out of every 10 individuals will experience a seizure during their lifetime, and 1 out of 100 will experience recurrent seizures (epilepsy). Therefore, the goals of our service are not only to enhance the general awareness of epilepsy, but also to educate the public on first aid procedures to be followed if they see or experience a seizure.

Please read First Aid for Seizures: you may be able to save a life.

First Aid for Seizures
  1. Cushion head
  2. Remove glasses and loosen any tight neckwear
  3. Turn person on side and keep airway clear
  4. Track time
  5. Check for epilepsy or seizure disorder ID
  6. Do not put anything in mouth
  7. Do not restrain the person
  8. Do not give oral medication during the seizure
  9. Stay with the person until he/she is fully awake
