Treatment of epilepsy with medication usually reduces seizure frequency or even eliminates seizures. In addition to standard medications currently available, through the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center's clinical trials, our staff has extensive experience with newer epilepsy medications.
In some cases, medication fails to provide adequate seizure control. In treating these intractable cases of epilepsy, the staff the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center uses the most advanced technology like vagal nerve stimulation and neurosurgical intervention with brain mapping to ensure that — if chosen — the neurosurgical approach is a safe and desirable option.
The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center provides care for all patients with seizures, no matter how complex their condition. To ensure that all of our patients' needs are being addressed, our team of health care professionals, including an on-site social worker, works to provide support and guidance in dealing with altered cognitive abilities as well as self-esteem and sexuality issues, altered parenting roles, reproductive decisions, and workplace disclosure.
